It Happens To Everyone

This statement is true, but how it’s used showcases a person’s emotional maturity. If every time someone opens up to you your response is “Everyone goes through that”, “That happens to everyone”, “That is a part of life everyone goes through it”, and other phrases like that. When someone opens up to you about their problems they know they are not the only person suffering from it. Rather, than belittling their feelings into “it’s not a big deal” why not rather empathize and go to their level, into their heart, and suffer with them. You can tell them that you support them, give them stories of people you know who may have suffered the same, and tell them they are not alone and ask them would you like some advice or help. If they don’t just listen. “It happens to everyone” yes sadness, loneliness, etc. does but it does not make the pain any less. Listen more and action more than going to a go-to phrase of this happens to everyone it just shows an extreme lack of emotional maturity and being there for someone in a way that matters.
